School Bus Safety for Kids

As the new school year approaches, we wanted to remind kids and parents of some school bus safety tips. Have a fun, safe school year from H.A. DeHart & Son!

When Waiting on the Bus:

  • Be alert. Stay away from traffic and avoid behavior that may lead to carelessness
  • Do not wander into the street or private property
  • Line up on the sidewalk, if there is one, or away from the street as the bus approaches

Getting on the Bus:

  • Wait until the bus stops and the driver opens the door before approaching the bus
  • Hold the handrail when boarding

Behavior on the Bus:

  • Buckle up
  • Keep your voices low so you do not distract the driver
  • Stay in your seat, buckled
  • Do not put any parts of your body or throw any objects out the window
  • Keep the bus aisle clear of any belongings
  • Remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop

Getting Off the Bus:

  • When exiting, hold the handrail
  • Make sure the driver is able to see you and wait for a signal from your bus driver before crossing
  • When it is safe to cross, look left, right, then left again. Walk across the road and be aware of any traffic changes
  • Always stand clear from the rear wheels of the bus
